Traffic congestion A15
At present, the accessibility via the A15 highway is already being threatened. The seriousness of this issue will continue to increase in the coming years as a result of the construction works.
In 2008 the A15 corridor Beneluxplein-Vaanplein was positioned on rank 7 in the national ‘Traffic Congestion Top 50’ of the ‘Verkeersinformatiedienst’. The A15 is the only highway that gives access to the port of Rotterdam territory. When a severe traffic accident occurs, large delays due to traffic congestion are a result. Not just on the A15 highway, but also on the access roads to the A15 and local roads in the port area. Moreover, on several locations a hard shoulder is missing, making it extremely challenging for emergency services to reach the accident.
By taking measures now, we will be able to ensure accessibility of companies and municipalities in the surrounding area of the A15 motorway. Rijkswaterstaat, the leader of this project, will do everything in its power to minimize the delays for road users during the construction work. Furthermore, De Verkeersonderneming offers a variety of measures to limit these delays even more.
